The Market Square is in an attractive environment, with food and craft stalls and situated one end of the picturesque Esplanade Park. It is well worth taking the short ferry from here to the historic Suomenlinna Fort. Among other things there is Havis Amanda. Every May Day (Vappu) the start of summer is celebrated by an elaborate ceremony, in which students place a cap on her. There are many quality places to eat and drink in this area.
